Los Angeles Laker star Kobe Bryant made a rare appearance in London today to help launch the London School of Basketball-a network of coaches committed to delivering coordinated basketball across London whilst increasing sustainable participation in the sport. Perhaps the biggest thing that was said was his response to a question from a fan about who would win a 1 on 1 between him and superstar Lebron James.
“I’d win, I’d win” he said shaking his head, much to the delight of those in attendance. He continued “That’s what I do. One on one is..that’s easy for me, you know. Playing one on one is how I grew up playing, it’s like my thing. Lebron is more like a Magic Johnson, he’s a great passer and plays an all around game. At the core of me, I’m a one on one player. I’d do that in my sleep.”

Some of yall are just crazy first of all anybody who agrees with Kobe is not a rookie NBA fan. Kobe would win, Kobe is a better player and as far as Lebron being a better team player…wrong, Lebron had good and great role players around, he just didn’t know how to use them, its been that way since he came in the league. All the players he was surrounded by were all in the playoffs second or third round or the finals, he had experience on his team, he just didn’t use them right, plus he’s a clutch choker.

i dont think Kobe can beat Lebron in anyway, he can be pinned like 20 times for a 1-11 game one-on-one. that cant happen. Lebron is big and fearsome and too much strength.
You “don’t think” means you’re not so sure. We have to realize that Lebron does have skills but basing those skills on his physical attributes is the same thing as saying that brute force wins all the time. Kobe had his reasons for saying what he said just because he knows he will win. He doesn’t need to be modest because he had proven it so many times. I do however, recognize Lebron’s skills. Kobe knows his own weakness and Lebron just isn’t one of them.

Championships WON as the main cog/secondary player. ie, Jordan/Pippen, Shaq/Kobe, only in the Shaq/Kobe thing, Kobe was more Jordan and Shaq was more Pippen. Bird/Mchale, Magic/Kareem, etc.
All around game—forget the stats so much. We know Bird was a killer in his day. He could do triple doubles, however, I bet without even looking he’s not a stat stuffer for his career. However, he’s one of the greatest all around players without even having to try an justify it!
Kareem—-All-time leading scorer.
Magic—-Considered greatest point guard ever.
Jordan—-Considered greatest player ever.
There are many others—–however. KOBE, is the only one getting constant comparisons to JORDAN. That’s because there is something special about what he can and has already done in the NBA. Let’s just see where he ends up folks instead of constantly hating on true greatness!!!
Championships—I don’t count Russell. He’s not a greatest player nominee. He is in contention as a greatest winner ever. There is a difference.
Jordan–6 titles
Kareem–6 titles
Magic–5 titles
Kobe–5 titles
Duncan–4 titles
Shaq–4 titles
Bird–3 titles
Doc J–1 title (Most dominant player during his era) not stats wise though.
Robert Horry–6 titles–and others like him who weren’t the main two cogs on a team don’t get love as greatest players folks, use your common sense.

Ant, your pretty much on the money with your break down of the titles of the players that you’ve listed except for (1) one and that is Robert Horry!!! He has (7) rings, 2 with the Rockets, 3 with the Lakers and 2 with the Spurs!!! And he was an excellent role player and clutch shooter for all of the Championship teams that he played on, just like D-Fish is for the Lakers!!!

Second, McHale was just not that good. The thing that made the 80s Celtcs great was Bird plus their strength from 2-5, not the unstoppable duo of McHale and Bird. I mean, McHale was good, but you take him away that team probably still get a ring or two in the 80s. Parrish had more all-NBA appearances than McHale (but I think they were close to equal in value overall, maybe slight edge to McHale).
Third, same thing for the 80s Lakers. Worthy and Scott were way too good to be compared with, say, BJ Armstrong and Bill Cartwright. And Kareem was mortal by the mid-80s.
Fourth- I don’t know how anyone could say that Shaq was “the Pippen” of the 00-02 Lakers. Shaq is not a complimentary player like Pip, and he was pretty clearly the axis of the team. Take 99-00: Shaq 13.6rpg 29.7ppg 3.8apg 57% fg 3bpg. Kobe 22.5ppg 6.3rpg 4.9apg 1.6spg. Statswise, there’s no comparison- and if you watched the games, it was Shaq’s team. Shaq was their go-to guy on the court and the vocal leader of the team.
Fifth- the whole idea of “Championships WON as the main cog/secondary player” as a measure of greatness basically screws over every great player who didn’t have another top-10 player to play with. It also screws over Tim Duncan and Hakeem, who won multiple championships without a second top-10 player. But it makes Kobe look good, and I guess that’s very important to you.

Because their games are similar. Comparing Shaq and Jordan, Magic and Jordan, or even LBJ and Jordan doesn’t make a lot of sense except in some vague “Shaq was really good and Jordan was really good” way. But just because some fans like to compare the two doesn’t mean they were in the same league talent-wise- Jordan was an asshole, but he was also much better than Kobe in his prime: little bit quicker, better first step, better hops, better finisher, better defender. That Jordan was a little bit streakier with his jumper is the only advantage Id give to Kobe in that matchup.
