Video: Kobe Bryant says he’d beat Lebron 1 on 1-”I’d do that in my sleep”

Los Angeles Laker star Kobe Bryant made a rare appearance in London today to help launch the London School of Basketball-a network of coaches committed to delivering coordinated basketball across London whilst increasing sustainable participation in the sport. Perhaps the biggest thing that was said was his response to a question from a fan about who would win a 1 on 1 between him and superstar Lebron James.

“I’d win, I’d win” he said shaking his head, much to the delight of those in attendance. He continued “That’s what I do. One on one is..that’s easy for me, you know. Playing one on one is how I grew up playing, it’s like my thing. Lebron is more like a Magic Johnson, he’s a great passer and plays an all around game. At the core of me, I’m a one on one player. I’d do that in my sleep.”

Big words from Kobe. Who do you think would win?

Some of yall are just crazy first of all anybody who agrees with Kobe is not a rookie NBA fan. Kobe would win, Kobe is a better player and as far as Lebron being a better team player…wrong, Lebron had good and great role players around, he just didn’t know how to use them, its been that way since he came in the league. All the players he was surrounded by were all in the playoffs second or third round or the finals, he had experience on his team, he just didn’t use them right, plus he’s a clutch choker.

Kobe, Kobe, Kobe…

Please shut the f**k up! Yes, I think you take LJ, but how about a little modesty? You have a reputation as a conceited snit, and it’d be a good idea not to try to prove it.

A forever Laker (and Kobe) fan. But geez!

i dont think Kobe can beat Lebron in anyway, he can be pinned like 20 times for a 1-11 game one-on-one. that cant happen. Lebron is big and fearsome and too much strength.

Reply

Dragunov October 6, 2010 at 3:26 am

You “don’t think” means you’re not so sure. We have to realize that Lebron does have skills but basing those skills on his physical attributes is the same thing as saying that brute force wins all the time. Kobe had his reasons for saying what he said just because he knows he will win. He doesn’t need to be modest because he had proven it so many times. I do however, recognize Lebron’s skills. Kobe knows his own weakness and Lebron just isn’t one of them.

That’s what makes great players great…..CONFIDENCE!!!!!!!!!!! LBJ is to big and his knee’s wont last that long with all that weight so he will never reach a KOBE status, and though there are HATERRRRS on the page, one question….Who has one two BACK to BACK Championships since it was last done by Houston?

Steve S. NYC October 7, 2010 at 7:56 am

To be honest, I did forget about the Bulls winning 3 in a row right after the Rockets went back to back, courtesy of Mr. Knowledge, thank you! But did we all forget that the Bulls went and 3peated twice after the Rockets back to back titles? Mr. Knowledge, in between the 3peats, is that when MJ went to play baseball? Then he came back and they 3peated again?

Are those serious questions? 1. You must be 10 years old or not a fan of basketball, 2. you could have found your answer on the interenet in the time it took you to type the question here

Reply

Steve S. NYC October 14, 2010 at 1:18 am

But I was right, wasn’t I? Look at Ryan, taking shots at people who happen to temporarily go brain dead for A MOMENT!! Ryan you were probably the biggest MJ, Chicago Bulls fan at the time. Frontrunning all the way when they were on top! Listen pal, I’m 54 and have forgotten more than you’ll ever cram into that skull of yours! In my neighborhood, you NEVER heard of anyone being a Bulls fan!! Now, here comes MJ and Co. and people like Ryan probably couldn’t jump on the bandwagon fast enough! So what that I asked for someone to clarify something for me, is that a crime Ryan? Why you taking shots? Maybe you got some other clown to laugh at 10 year old remark at my expense!! I’d bury you in a trivia contest!! Watch what YOU say on this site, I’ll be watching for you!!

John October 14, 2010 at 1:50 am

Lol, looks like Ryan’s right on #1 and 2…. and by all his posts it looks like Steve has no life and is a hypocrite with all the crap he talks

John, are you Ryans agent or professional ego booster!! How am I a hypocrite jackass? Explain that comment?? If you don’t come back with something to back up that statement, what does that make you??

Reply

Steve S. NYC October 14, 2010 at 2:23 am

Oh yeah! Re: #2- going to the I-net for the answer. I didn’t have to go there, I was 99% sure, that the year between 3peats for the Bulls is when MJ went to play baseball. I thought that the guy whom I asked for confirmation was “on the air” at the time, that’s why I asked him!! Just some back n forth!! You and Ryan know about the “back n forth”, righjt? You’re “back n forth” buddies!!

John October 14, 2010 at 3:02 am

hahahahahah…. you have no idea how entertaining your frustration is!

And as I see you are slow on many levels and need to be shown you’re own hypocracy.. so here you go, (and don’t feel rushed to read this, you can take as much time as you need to understand – oh, and don’t forget, you read left to right) your hypocracy… this would be how got all worked up and said Ryan is “taking shots at people”, when you’ve posted comments such as “get with it” to Mr Marquez, calling knick fans cry babies, and then your whole comment “Doc King, you’ve got to be kidding if you think anyone understands what you’re trying to say with that ho-de-ho shit that your trying to pass off as some form of a language! Sad!! Hurtado, you too. You and Doc are probably nice guys but damn, get help when you’re at the keyboard” etc. Hell you had to even comment about someone typing with a misplaced letter q! LOL! damn you’re pathetic! Brain dead for a moment?! HA – try permanent! “Justify” my comment?! Damn you just keep making yourself look dumber and proving everyone elses comments each post you make! You must be some lonely, over the hill balding man that hasn’t been laid in years, doesn’t have a social life and has nothing better to do then sit around and blog! Anyway, thanks for the laughs, but no more posting for me… I have a thousand better things to be doing with my time, just couldn’t resist on this one!

Hey hammerhead, You called me a hypocrite, right? I asked, no challenged you to back that up as to why and how I’m a hypocrite!! You came back with nothing! Why didn’t you answer your remarks? I see you’re following all my comments! What the fuck do you care what I said to those people? If you read, CORRECTLY, I wasn’t putting down Tatiana. I prefaced it by saying, FYI, ,jerkoff! I would appreciate someone telling me my mistakes that I may be putting out there for all to see, instead of letting me go on looking like I didn’t even know the alphabet!! But you, you illiterate prick can probably make something out of what the good Doc and Hurtado were saying!!

ankles: “Lebron had good and great role players around, he just didn’t know how to use them” are your seriously beliveing that? come on man none of the cavs are great role players. lets not forget kobe was asking for a trade when they werent maken it to the playoffs until he got him another bonafide player with him (pau gasol) allstar caliber players argubly one of the top 5 PFs in the league. lets not forget lamar odom. or ron artest argubly the best one on one defender in the league. Thats how you build a championship team. not with the likes of Mo williams, anderson V, Jj hickson, (old shaq), None of these players put fear in the heart of a good team. ALL these players wilt under pressure. lets be realistic with the posts next time. By the way LBJ is a better team player then kobe. Kobe’s a better scorer and has a better team and more expirence.

Folks:

A measuring stick for greatness!!!

Championships WON as the main cog/secondary player. ie, Jordan/Pippen, Shaq/Kobe, only in the Shaq/Kobe thing, Kobe was more Jordan and Shaq was more Pippen. Bird/Mchale, Magic/Kareem, etc.

All around game—forget the stats so much. We know Bird was a killer in his day. He could do triple doubles, however, I bet without even looking he’s not a stat stuffer for his career. However, he’s one of the greatest all around players without even having to try an justify it!

Kareem—-All-time leading scorer.
Magic—-Considered greatest point guard ever.
Jordan—-Considered greatest player ever.

There are many others—–however. KOBE, is the only one getting constant comparisons to JORDAN. That’s because there is something special about what he can and has already done in the NBA. Let’s just see where he ends up folks instead of constantly hating on true greatness!!!

Championships—I don’t count Russell. He’s not a greatest player nominee. He is in contention as a greatest winner ever. There is a difference.

Jordan–6 titles
Kareem–6 titles
Magic–5 titles
Kobe–5 titles
Duncan–4 titles
Shaq–4 titles
Bird–3 titles
Doc J–1 title (Most dominant player during his era) not stats wise though.

Robert Horry–6 titles–and others like him who weren’t the main two cogs on a team don’t get love as greatest players folks, use your common sense.

Now D-Fish sort of fits in the Robert Horry mode, if you see what I’m saying.

Reply

ED October 6, 2010 at 2:47 am

Ant, your pretty much on the money with your break down of the titles of the players that you’ve listed except for (1) one and that is Robert Horry!!! He has (7) rings, 2 with the Rockets, 3 with the Lakers and 2 with the Spurs!!! And he was an excellent role player and clutch shooter for all of the Championship teams that he played on, just like D-Fish is for the Lakers!!!

Kamron October 6, 2010 at 5:29 pm

First, why did you leave Pip off of your list?
Second, McHale was just not that good. The thing that made the 80s Celtcs great was Bird plus their strength from 2-5, not the unstoppable duo of McHale and Bird. I mean, McHale was good, but you take him away that team probably still get a ring or two in the 80s. Parrish had more all-NBA appearances than McHale (but I think they were close to equal in value overall, maybe slight edge to McHale).
Third, same thing for the 80s Lakers. Worthy and Scott were way too good to be compared with, say, BJ Armstrong and Bill Cartwright. And Kareem was mortal by the mid-80s.
Fourth- I don’t know how anyone could say that Shaq was “the Pippen” of the 00-02 Lakers. Shaq is not a complimentary player like Pip, and he was pretty clearly the axis of the team. Take 99-00: Shaq 13.6rpg 29.7ppg 3.8apg 57% fg 3bpg. Kobe 22.5ppg 6.3rpg 4.9apg 1.6spg. Statswise, there’s no comparison- and if you watched the games, it was Shaq’s team. Shaq was their go-to guy on the court and the vocal leader of the team.
Fifth- the whole idea of “Championships WON as the main cog/secondary player” as a measure of greatness basically screws over every great player who didn’t have another top-10 player to play with. It also screws over Tim Duncan and Hakeem, who won multiple championships without a second top-10 player. But it makes Kobe look good, and I guess that’s very important to you.

“KOBE, is the only one getting constant comparisons to JORDAN. That’s because there is something special about what he can and has already done in the NBA.”

Because their games are similar. Comparing Shaq and Jordan, Magic and Jordan, or even LBJ and Jordan doesn’t make a lot of sense except in some vague “Shaq was really good and Jordan was really good” way. But just because some fans like to compare the two doesn’t mean they were in the same league talent-wise- Jordan was an asshole, but he was also much better than Kobe in his prime: little bit quicker, better first step, better hops, better finisher, better defender. That Jordan was a little bit streakier with his jumper is the only advantage Id give to Kobe in that matchup.

All those jibering about kobe needing great players just talking s-it!!!
Jordan had a great team, wade had a great team, paul pierce had a great team, magic , etc..
Lebron had a very good team but hes no leader , besides the fact all the time he wants to start the plays when hes not a PG or
SG.

Lebron individualy great but you cannot even compare him with wade, even worse with kobe.

Analize this if heat win 2 championships with luck and if lakers disapear from NBA, still wade will have more titles than lebron ,so
Where is lebrons greatness, common he couldnt even beat wade in the all-star 2010.

Lebron yeah hes good , so was iverson, mcgrady , but has no titles just good publicity

Someone asked him if Kobe would beat him one on one and he straight out said hell no. So if u wna judge Kobe over this, the oh so beloved MJ should be judged the same exact way. Problem is…what can u say. MJ is a legend and kobe is a future legend. Bunch of rookies with no NBA knowledge.

Kobe vs Lebron- 1 on 1: Lebron is very elusive 4 his size & he has great skills but Kobe has that universal style + that fade-away unstoppable jump-shot that M.J. patent-perfected & Kobe has better {D} so Kobe would sink more buckets & win 7 out of 10 times! Lets ask Lebron the same question or would he back out like he did on the dunk contest, lol! Lebron 2nd guessed himself & didnt keep his word but he didnt want 2 tamper w/ his pride by losing the dunk contest, lol! All star weekend will not add a 1 on 1 contest because it will take-away from the NBA being a team game + it would start 2 much conflict & pride issues would get in the way! The ratings would sky rocket but i dont c it happening unless ppl lose interest in the NBA! Lebron is a mobile beast but Kobe is the best in the world 4 right now! Like M.J. said, if he was in his prime, no1 could take him & MICHAEL JORDAN is the best all around basketball player 2 ever live & thats a fact! Kobe will go down as the 2nd best shooting guard ever & Lebron will take his pl somewhere! Stay open minded but THOROUGH folks! LOYAL 1LUV SPORTS FAN: E.

When will people wake up and see LeDummy for what he is a David Stearn wish list that went wrong!! After Kobe is done a kid by the name of Kevin Durant will be dominating the League and you dumbasses will still be waiting for that fool to win a title.

Regarding who you think would win in a one on one matchup between Kobe and LeBron, it’s so easy to pick out the Knick fans who are all taking Kobe’s side NOW that LeBron has told NY to stick it! Up until then, every Knick fan had dreams of multiple titles being won When LeBron signed with the Knicks. Now that he didn’t, ‘he sucks’; ‘he wouldn’t have made it here’; then the name calling, LeQueen, LeBrick, LeDummy!! Better just get used to the Knicks not playing in any real important games being played at MSG anytime soon! Even with Amare they are suspect! Gallinari? This is the year! Either he fulfills what they hoped for or definitley will become trade bait. I’m getting off the point. You Knick fans are cry babies!
