The Great Britain Senior Women are set to compete in the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup 2026 Pre-Qualifying Tournaments, to be held in Mexico and Rwanda in August.

The inaugural events, being held from August 19 to 25, 2024, will take place in Mexico City and Kigali, with GB being one of 16 teams vying for a spot in the World Cup Qualifying Tournaments slated for March 2026.

The 16 participating nations are distributed into two host venues—Mexico City and Kigali—each welcoming eight teams grouped into two.

Each group will comprise teams from four different continents, ensuring a diverse and challenging competition. The top two teams from each group will advance to the Semi-Finals, with the winners of each tournament securing a spot in the next round of qualifiers.

The teams competing are as follows:

Africa: Senegal, Mali, Rwanda, Mozambique
Americas: Brazil, Mexico, Venezuela, Argentina
Asia/Oceania: New Zealand, Korea, Philippines, Lebanon
Europe: Hungary, Czechia, Montenegro, Great Britain

The FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup 2026 Qualifying Tournaments will involve 24 teams, with the winners of the Mexico and Rwanda Pre-Qualifying Tournaments and a further 22 teams determined by results in the FIBA Women’s Continental Cups 2025.

A total of 16 nations, including hosts Germany, will punch their tickets through the Qualifying Tournaments in 2026 and compete at the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup 2026, as part of an expanded field.

Last year, the British Basketball Federation opted not to enter the men into the Pre-Olympic Qualifiers.

The draw for the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup 2026 Pre-Qualifying Tournaments will take place on April 25 at 14:00 (CET) at the Patrick Baumann House of Basketball and will be live streamed on FIBA’s YouTube channel.
