GB Senior Men’s Training Camp Opens with Last Minute Additions

Great Britain Senior Men’s training camp opens on Friday at the FA National Football Centre at St George’s Park and, as expected, features some last minute changes.

Ashley Hamilton has been forced to withdraw due to injury, and according to MVP’s Mark Woods, Andy Thompson, Gareth Murray, Olu Babalola, Ali Fraser (pictured above), and Jamell Anderson have all received call ups. British Basketball have since confirmed three of those have made the squad; Ali Fraser, Jamell Anderson and Gareth Murray.

The late invites follow a “GB Futures” mini-camp on Tuesday and Wednesday at UEL Sports Dock in London; two practices with the the GB Senior Men coaching staff, which featured 9 players – Jamell Anderson, Olu Babalola, Ali Fraser, Harrison Gamble, Ben Mockford, Gareth Murray, Louis Sayers, Nigel van Oostrum, and Connor Washington.

“The GB Futures camp was a great success and the high level of promising young talent there was excellent to see,” said GB head coach Joe Prunty.

“I am very pleased to be able to offer these young players to chance to come to the senior camp and I am looking forward to seeing what they can do.”

Pops Mensah-Bonsu’s status remains unclear whilst he is currently touring in Ghana, whilst there could be other potential withdrawals.

The team’s first preparation game will be against Puerto Rico at the Copper Box in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, London at on August 11th. The team will then travel to Finland, Greece, Poland and Spain for further preparation fixtures ahead of EuroBasket at the beginning of September (see full list here).
