It took a while to get the scoring going on Saturday for England’s U16 Women but they found their touch when it counted and eventually defeated Luxembourg, 49-35, to move to 2-0 in the European Championship.
A low-scoring affair saw Luxembourg lead 27-21 heading into the final quarter and while England had not scored double digits in any of the preceding three periods, they reeled off 28 in the last ten minutes while holding their opponents to eight.
Head coach Karen Burton’s squad are now are assured of a place in the 1st-8th place classification games regardless of what happens in their game against Finland on Monday.
Samantha Clement was England’s top scorer with 9 points while Abigail Johnson had 6 points and 12 rebounds. Luxembourg were led by Lisa Jabnolowski who had 8 points and 7 boards.
