Great Britain suffered heartbreak despite a phenomenal effort from Harriet Ottewill-Soulsby as they were denied a first win at the U20 European Championship Women Division B after losing 58-56 to Montenegro.
Ottewill-Soulsby accumulated a brilliant double-double of 18 points and 16 rebounds, but not for the first time in the tournament, GB lost their offensive rhythm during the final ten minutes and were duly punished.
In a familiar pattern, Karen Burton and her team had enjoyed a brilliant opening to the contest after scoring the first eleven points to rock their opponents onto the back foot.
Montenegro eventually arose from their slumber and not only managed to get a foothold, but even found the lead during the second quarter as they went 18-15 ahead.
Both teams then enjoyed regular shares of the lead after the game had been tied up at 28-28 during the half-time interval.
Great Britain found themselves back in the ascendency after an excellent third quarter when they built up a handy 49-43 advantage.
However, the final quarter blues were to bite GB again as Montenegro outscored them 13-2 at the start of the last period to get out in front and that is where the host nation remained.
Hannah Peacock did her best to inspire a much needed triumph with five late points, but GB just came up short as a last gasp triple from Megan Lewis refused to drop.
