The Under 18 Men’s final was the highlight of the EBL Junior Final Fours this weekend, with Cheshire Jets and Worthing Thunder going at it right until the end. Check out the last 1 minute 20 seconds of the game-Cheshire are up 77-75 and seemingly in control before a number of clutch plays from both teams leads to a finish that goes down to the wire…

I undersatnd that there was NO representative from the EB at this tournament, not even to present the trophies.
Of course it must have been difficult for any representative to attend as the tournament was held in Sheffield and it is quite a distance from the EB Head Office !!!!!!!!
Warwick Cann was there who could easily have presented the trophies to the winning teams, as a representative of GB, but then he was only dressed in jeans, hardly a suitable dress code to present trophies I guess.
As it was, a person called Bob Chappel presented the trophies, somebody who I am sure was well known to all the teams. I assume, as a Team Manager, he represented the EB?
Yet another of so many examples of the effort and consideration given to junior basketball by our Administration.
Present at the tournament:
Keith Mair – CEO
Alison Muir – Director (She presented some Trophies)
Jeff Jones – Director
Roger Harrison – Ref’s Supervisor
The whole event was organised by EB staff and credit should be given to them.
Bob Chappel has been England u18 and Mens team manager, i think he’s a fairly good representative to be honest.
The closeness of this game and the boys U16 final were very enjoyable.
But if anyone watched the Leicester vs Worthing semi final in the u18 group, you would have to feel that Worthing got lucky with Raph getting fouled out with 4 minutes to go. Would of been great to see Elliot and Raph in the final.
But Worthing were great finalists and fought hard in both games.
Who were your standout players for the weekend?
I for one want to put the whole Manchester U14s as the most standout team.
Luke Nelson from Worthing, Tamas Okros from Magic U16 and Greg Krippa from Cheshire. They all were impressive
A great weekend and some fascinating and thrilling matches…speaking of which, do you have any footage of the Manchester Magic – Cheshire Jets U16 Final on the Saturday?
It was a good game but to be honest you can see that the standard of basketball has dropped from last year and the previous as teams like westminster reading manchester last year would have blown out these teams in the under 18 final four. but overall decent game to watch and well done
