GB Senior Women’s Eurobasket Games to Be Broadcast on BBC

British Basketball have revealed that the GB Senior Women’s Eurobasket Women games will be broadcast via the BBC this summer.

The team’s first round games in Szombathely next month will be shown on the BBC Red Button and via the BBC Sport website in another exciting development for the British game.

“This is an amazing lift for us,” said GB legend, Stef Collins.

“To know that everyone back home will be watching and cheering every bounce of the ball and every basket, will certainly be a huge confidence boost and can really inspire us.

“The BBC also did lots of work with us at the recent Media Day and I believe that will be available soon, which is also very exciting.”

Meanwhile Performance Chairman, Roger Moreland added, “The BBC have shown a lot of interest in the senior women’s programme and it is giving the players the kind of platform their success deserves.

“EuroBasket Women is an incredibly tough tournament and as a pathway to Rio, even more so.

“However this is our third appearance at the event and we have proven we can produce results.

“Whatever happens, it’s terrific that people will be able to watch the Women try and continue their incredible rise to prominence during recent years.

“This kind of exposure for our elite women athletes will also hopefully help with the hugely important aim of both ourselves and Sport England which is to encourage more women to take up the sport – especially at the grass roots level.”

EuroBasket Women 2015 will tip-off on 11 June, with the first GB game coming a day later.

The team will play four games during the first phase which are as follows:

12/06/15 v Russia 18.00
13/06/15 v Latvia 15.30
14/06/15 v Serbia 15.30
15/06/15 v Croatia 15.30

(All times are UK)

If successful, GB will move to nearby Gyor to participate in the second part of the competition between 17-22 June.

The final leg of the tournament is in Budapest between 24-28 June, when the winners will be determined and the next four teams will have their Rio dreams extended further via a ticket to the Olympic Qualifying Tournament next year.
