The Great Britain Senior Men and Women will play exhibitions in London for the first time since 2017, as it has been revealed the men will face South Sudan and women Germany sandwiched around the USA games in the summer.
The games, likely to be at the Copper Box Arena a source told Hoopsfix, will see the men take on South Sudan on Thursday July 18 and women face Germany on Sunday July 21.
They come as a result of USA basketball being in London to prep for the Olympics, with the men taking on South Sudan and Germany at the O2 Arena on July 20 and 22, and USA women facing Germany on July 23, also at the O2.
It will be a remarkable moment for Luol Deng – who starred for GB at the London 2012 Olympics and now returns as President of the South Sudan Basketball Federation, who he has led to Olympic qualification in a fairytale story.
“We are delighted that USA Basketball selected London as its final stop before competing at the 2024,” Chris Grant OBE, Chair of GB Basketball said.
“How wonderful it is that our passionate fans will have the opportunity to get close to some of the best players in the world! Just as USA Basketball is passing through London on its way to Paris, our ambition is that four years from now our GB teams will be touching down in the USA on our way to Los Angeles 2028.”
Tickets for the GB games will go on sale on a yet-to-be-announced date in the coming weeks.
