SULLIVAN EAGER FOR TIP-OFF

Great Britain captain Drew Sullivan is expecting “something special” as he prepares to lead his team out on the court at the Basketball Arena in the Olympic Park on Sunday.

The hosts start their campaign against Russia in what will be their first appearance in the Olympic men’s basketball tournament since 1948.

Sullivan – who has agreed a new deal with Leicester Riders – has been part of the British Basketball programme since its inception in 2006 and said: “I’m extremely excited about taking part in these Olympics.

“To be here in London where I grew up is something special to me,” he said.

“I’ve been here since the start when we began working towards this and I can’t wait for the Games to start.

“I’ve got family coming and to play in front of them – there’s nothing more special than this.”

And assistant coach Nick Nurse added: “This is the best team we’ve ever had and I think it’s time for us to punch through. We’ll have the home fans and with the experience we’ve been through we’ll work to punch our way through somehow.”
