AYER, JOHNSON COMPLETE GB CAMP ROSTER
Chris Ayer is the surprise late addition to Great Britain’s preliminary squad for their training camp ahead of next month’s EuroBasket.
The 6’11” centre, aged 27, has spent much of his professional career in Japan after graduating from Loyola Marymount University but latterly spent two seasons with the Los Angeles Lightning of the US-based IBL.
He had a spell with NBA D-League outfit Dakota Wizards last term after previous stints in the developmental competition with Springfield and Utah but will now get a chance to prove his readiness for the international game when camp opens on Sunday in Cobham, Surrey.
British Basketball’s High Performance Manager, Ron Wuotila, said: “Chris is a very good rebounder and after a strong season in the D-League we are excited to see him play in a GB context.â€
Futures squad player Kyle Johnson completes list of call-ups from the younger ranks following the summons for  Andrew Lawrence, Alex Marcotullio, Ryan Richards and Devon van Oostrum which were confirmed earlier this week.
GB performance director Chris Spice said: “These players have done very well in the programmes we have been running this year and they are being justly rewarded for their good performances in the last six to eight weeks.
“This bodes well for the GB team’s future with such great young talent coming through, I’m confident this is an investment for the progress of basketball in Britain. It is also proof that our system is working well to be producing players of this calibre.â€
