TONEY NO LONGER A TIGER
Great Britain international Tafari Toney has left Mersey Tigers and signed for French National 1 side Charleville-Mezieres.The New York-born forward, who was a key component in the Tigers treble winning side, has agreed a 1-year deal with the third tier side.
“What sent me there is better opportunity to move up,†said Toney. That’s my plan.â€
Tigers are expected to play at Huyton Leisure Centre next season with Drew Sullivan the only team member currently understood to be under contract. A number of players from last season’s team remain in dispute with the club over unpaid salaries.
Meanwhile newcastle Eagles have been linked with the signing of Spanish star Pedro Robles from the Spanish LEB, according to reports in The Chronicle. The 32-year-old is a free agent after helping Murcia to promotion to the ACB but Eagles chairman Paul Blake admits the bid for his services is a “long shot.â€
