GB U20s Dominate Hosts Romania to Go 3-0

The Great Britain Under-20s continued their impressive start to the Division B European Championships with a 99-43 hammering of host nation Romania on Sunday evening.

Boosted by the return of Matthew Don, who has missed their two opening games due to a back injury, a total team effort saw everybody score on their way to a 56 point beat-down.

“Today’s victory started with the tremendous scout preparation of coaches James Vear and Marc Steutel,” said head coach Doug Leichner after the game. “The players carried out the game plan to perfection. We are very thankful to get the victory on the road against the host country Romania.

“From early in the morning, I could see the players were focused and were paying attention to detail. Devon continues to be an excellent floor general distributing the ball at a high level and gets us running in transition.

“Zak Wells took the challenge of guarding one of the best big men in the tourney and did tremendous. Rowell Graham was very active on the glass and helped us to a half time lead. I was impressed with our bench production as John Stewart, Matt Don, Nick Lewis and Grant MacKay continue to give us major contributions.”

Devon van Oostrum finished with a 19 points and 9 rebounds, Nick Lewis and Raphell Thomas-Edwards added 14 points, the latter adding 14 rebounds, with Joe Hart finishing with 12 and John Stewart 11 points.
