The Great Britain Under-20 men completed the Division B European Championships with an eighth place finish following a 82-74 loss to Switzerland on Sunday.

Louis Halliday had 16 points, Louie Tucker had 15 points and Zamoku Weluche-Ume finished with 12, as the Swiss took the lead early in the second quarter and held off GB the rest of the way.

“They boys did the program well with a top 8 finish,” Head Coach Krumesh Patel said after the tournament.

“I believe we could have pushed a little higher, but I think it’s a restart point for u20 Mens that we should aim to push forward on.

Our defensive presence early in the tournament was good, we set a good standard and intensity that eventually got us to the quarter finals; however, the lack of scoring hurt us through out the tournament…with a little more experience we could have pushed further.

“Not only did we have a top 8 finish we also had some really good individual accolades and achievements in the top 10. Great to see James Okonkwo, Lane Campbell and Victor Ndoukou make strides in individual stats.

“I believe there are areas we need to improve and grow so that next time we can push further.

“I want to thank all players and staff for their commitment this summer and also the federation for all the behind the scenes support – we will be back better and stronger.

“For me it was great honour finally Head Coaching for GB and hopefully can inspire more younger coaches, especially Asians.”
