BUCS Final Four set as university season enters final stretch

Loughborough, Solent, UWE and Newcastle will battle for a spot in the BUCS Championship final this weekend after all winning in their respective quarter-finals last week.

It is three of the four teams that made last years Final Four, with Newcastle, Loughborough, and Solent returning, while University of the West of England Bristol (UWE) replace Durham.

UWE knocked out last year’s runners up, Durham, 100-59, in the quarter-final, behind a 21-point, 12-rebound from BBL forward Malcolm Delpeche, as they will take on defending champions Newcastle, who escaped Essex 86-74 in their Final Eight match-up, behind 22 points from Jordan May and 17 from Javante Hayes.

On the other half of the bracket, Loughborough – who four-peated before the two cancelled COVID seasons – take on Solent.

Loughborough got past University of East London 81-73 in their quarter-final, behind BBL trio Blake Bowman, Jubrile Adekoya and Evan Walshe, while Solent made their fourth consecutive Final Four, defeating Nottingham Trent 71-67 behind 21 points from Kai Walker.

BUCS Women

Essex, Durham, Loughborough and Newcastle will do battle in the BUCS Women Final Four after all winning their respective quarter-finals last Wednesday.

Essex dispatched of Edinburgh 81-53 with 32 points from Sune Swart to cruise to their semi-final spot, Durham took down University of East London 77-66, while Loughborough got past Solent 87-74 and Newcastle got past Cardiff Met 91-82.
