SCOTLAND CONFIRM COMMONWEALTH BASKETBALL TEAMS

Scotland has unveiled its 3×3 basketball squads for this month’s Commonwealth Games.

GB international Gareth Murray, featured on each of the two times 5×5 basketball has featured at the Games, will be player-coach of the men’s team along side his Gold Coast and Glasgow Rocks team-mates Fraser Malcolm and Jonny Bunyan and Nottingham Hoods guard Kyle Jimenez.

The women’s side features Commonwealth Games debutantes Leicester Riders guard Hannah Robb, Sian Phillips of the now-defunct Caledonia Pride, London Lions guard Kennedy Leonard and Essex Rebels forward Claire Paxton who has been chosen for “tactical reasons” ahead of Erin McGarrachan.

Hers is the only change from the men’s and women’s quartets which cemented qualification for the Games earlier this year during a home nations qualifying tournament in Largs.

Murray said: “I am really proud to once again pull on a Scotland vest at the Commonwealth Games. Melbourne then Gold Coast in particular, were fantastic experiences and I am really honoured to be leading our team at what is, effectively, a home Games.”

Scotland’s women wheelchair 3×3 team, who will take on Australia and South Africa in Group B, features Paralympians Robyn Love and Jude Hamer, alongside Jessica Whyte and Lynsey Speirs.

England have yet to unveil their teams with the men’s line-up expected to include Myles Hesson and Jamell Anderson and the women’s Temi Fagbenle and Chantelle Handy.
