The Commonwealth Games Federation has announced that 3×3 basketball will be a part of the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.
The 23rd edition of the Commonwealth Games will take place in Scotland from Thursday, 23 July to Sunday, 2 August 2026, returning to the city 12 years after the hugely successful 2014 Games, and will mark a return for 3×3 basketball after it debuted at Birmingham 2022.
In Birmingham, England had much to celebrate with its men’s and women’s teams winning gold and silver medals, as they will look to replicate that success.
“I’m excited that Glasgow has confirmed to host the 2026 Commonwealth Games to give an opportunity to everybody in those sports to compete,” 3×3 Commonwealth Games gold medallist Orlan Jackman, who also sits on the board for Commonwealth Games England, said.
“3×3 in Birmingham was such a huge moment, I’m just glad that it has another chance to feature in the Games and we will have another chance to defend our medals because right now, we’re the team to beat and welcome all contenders.”
Basketball England Head of Talent and Performance Steve Bucknall added:
“Learning today that 3×3 has been included in the 2026 Commonwealth Games programme is fantastic news.
“Our England teams performed exceptionally two years ago to obtain their gold and silver medal haul in Birmingham, the news from the Commonwealth Games Federation brings clarity to our next steps and we’re excited to put together a performance programme and elite squad selection that can, from the men’s perspective, defend our title, and for the women, go one better and turn silver to gold.”
