Ogo Adegboye has announced his return to basketball, signing in Italy’s A2 with Rieti officially bringing an end to his retirement that was revealed in January.
At the start of this year, the 31 year old point guard revealed he had retired in 2017 following a battle with depression but the itch to play again has come in recent months and culminated with signing in Italy last week. Adegboye made his debut on Sunday, a two point loss to Axpo Legnano, registering 19 minutes off the bench.
“Well, it’s good to be back,” Adegboye told Hoopsfix.
“(I’m) Still getting my feet up under me, getting back to the flow and rhythm of playing again as far as season scheduling – teammates, coaches, practice, games etc – but other than that I’m grateful, as always, to do what I’ve done most of my life.
“I think coming back is a testament to the fact that sometimes, and not always ideally, you need to re-evaluate why it is you do what you do, while trying to figure out what the next step is.
“For athletes it’s not always easy to see, let alone make, the transition into life after sports. I had to figure this out for me. Hopefully more players begin to make this transition smoothly and effectively, doing away with negative statistics.”
