A young fan from London was surprised recently by favourite player, Draymond Green, at a commercial shoot in Crystal Palace, South London.
14-year-old Patrick Morrison from Hackney was treated to a once-in-a-lifetime experience when he was surprised by his basketball idol and two-time NBA Champion Green. The original video has now amassed almost 2 million views on Facebook.
Patrick, who was led to believe that he was being interviewed as ‘BT Sport’s Biggest NBA fan,’ spoke of his love for the game of basketball and the positive impact it has had on his life, completely unaware that he was only seconds away from meeting the Golden State Warriors power forward.
As Patrick continued to talk on camera about the NBA, the 6’7″ Green approached before surprising him mid-sentence, much to the shock and bewilderment of the 14-year-old. The pair chatted about all things basketball, with Green inviting the teenager to watch a game in San Francisco, before gifting him a Golden State Warriors jersey signed by his favourite player.
For Patrick, the experience was something he will cherish for a long time. He said:
“Something struck me with what he (Green) said, he said ‘if I’ve ever got something bad on my mind, I just go play basketball’ and that’s the exact same thing I do. I think it’s going to push me more in basketball now, I think I’m going to go out and be just like Draymond.
“I’ve just had the greatest experience of my life. I’ve met my idol, my hero, in Draymond Green. I never thought I could meet him, he’s a Warrior, he’s my player and I can’t believe I just met him!”
