Help Hoopsfix to Win the Aviva Community Fund

Hoopsfix needs your help to be in with a chance of winning £25,000 towards our annual event, the Hoopsfix All Star Classic.

Having now ran the not-for-profit event – that aims to showcase the best of British basketball – for three years, we’re really looking to grow and expand in 2017, and as a result have been researching other potential funding sources.

The Aviva Community Fund is an annual competition ran by Aviva, using their expertise to give thousands of organisations the support they need to make a difference in their local area. In 2015, their community investment totaled £10.8 million and community programmes helped 587,203 people around the world. They aim to help 5,000 local community projects by 2020.

In this year’s competition, the Hoopsfix All Star Classic is entered into the £25,000, ‘Sport in the Community’ category.

For the £25,000 award, there will be 72 finalists from the public entries, all coming from a public voting system.

The highest-voted projects (top 4 in each category in each income band – so we need to be top 4 in the average income of less than £100,000, in the community sport category) will reach the Finals, where a panel of judges will decide which project receives funding.

By our estimations, we are up against around 300 projects in our category, which means we desperately need your help to get in front of the judging panel!

If we were to win the competition, we would:

– Expand the Hoopsfix All Star Classic to cover more days, allowing the team’s more practice to improve the quality of the games, plus more time to do media sessions to promote the players.

– Include a female Under-19 All Star game exhibition, to provide the same platform and opportunities for female players.

– Include more areas and people, with the potential of bringing in an All Star team from Scotland.

– Add in educational classroom sessions/seminars for the players, to focus on off-court issues.

– Add more community events around the main event, such as taking the players into local schools to talk and inspire kids.

Voting

– Anyone who lives in the UK and registers on the Aviva Community Fund website can vote for projects between 9am on 21 October and midday on 18 November – you don’t have to have submitted a project to vote.

– You’ll get 10 votes which you can use at any time during the voting phase of the competition. Of course, we’d be eternally grateful if you gave all 10 to us!
