England under-16’s were beaten 76-69 by hosts Slovakia, on Friday, as they began their preparation for this summer’s European Championships.
Alan Keane’s side won three of the four quarters, and had opened up a commanding 11-point lead at half-time. However, they were left to rue a costly third period as Slovakia seized control with a dominant 29-8 quarter and the damage had been done.
2000 born Jacob Round top scored with 15 points, while Jacob Iwowo – the only remaining member of last year’s squad that achieved promotion to Division A – and London Thunder team-mate Josh Edwards, who came off the bench, both scored 14 points. Zephi Sharman also contributed well from the bench after narrowly missing out on a double-double with 9 points and 13 rebounds.

England will play Poland later today in their second game, before rounding off the tournament against last year’s Euro bronze medalists Spain – who crushed Poland 92-53 on the opening day – on Sunday.
