British Basketball Reportedly Set to Be Rescued Without UK Sport Funding

British Basketball looks to be bailed out from its financial problems, despite UK Sport refusing to match-fund Sport England’s offering, The Telegraph reports.

The Telegraph reported last month that Sport England were willing to put in up to £500,000 to save the high performance programme – who’s funding was completely withdrawn earlier this year – providing it secures the same amount from elsewhere.

However, Sport England are now reportedly “ready to hand over the entire pot” it had set aside for British Basketball, while the federation “is poised to come up with the extra £250,000 a year it needs to stay afloat from elsewhere.”

The Telegraph added that Helen Grant, the Sports Minister, is expected to announce full details of the rescue package within the next two weeks.
