Great Britain star Pops Mensah-Bonsu is reportedly to sign with Italian side Olimpia Milano, providing he passes physicals, according to Sportando.net.
The 6’9″ athletic forward has been without a team this season after the two year contract he signed with Maccabi Tel Aviv in the summer was terminated due to a knee injury sustained at the London 2012 Olympics.
Sportando reports the two parties are finalising a deal that will see Pops remain there until the end of the season, providing he passes the physical and medical examinations that are expected to take place next week.
Pops enjoyed the best year of his professional career last season with Turkish side Besiktas, winning the treble whilst averaging 18.5 points and 11.8 rebounds in the Eurochallenge and 12.8 points, 7.8 rebounds in the TBL, both whilst shooting over 60% from the field.
If a deal is finalised, Pops will have missed the chance to play in the Euroleague this season after Milano failed to qualify for the Top 16, finishing with a 3-7 record in the regular season. Milano are looking for a big man to replace Richard Hendrix on their roster, who is leaving on loan.
