Manchester Magic took the 2012 Under-18 National Cup after rolling past Reading Rockets Academy 77-57 in the final on Sunday at the Amaechi Centre, Manchester.
The result never looked in doubt as Manchester controlled the game from start to finish behind an MVP performance from Jack Crook, who finished with 24 points and 11 rebounds on 10/15 shooting.
The lone bright spot for Reading was Durrell Charles, who went 9/14 from the field for his 24 points, adding 3 steals and 3 assists, as rising young star Luke Nelson (1995 born) struggled to get going, finishing with 13 points on 5/20 shooting.
This 20 point victory was the closest result Manchester have had in their cup run. Including the final, their margin of victory in each of their 6 games has been an average of 36 points!
Luke Nelson picked up two quick fouls and was stuck on the bench for a large portion of the first half. Ended up getting visibly frustrated with the referees after a series of no-calls; Reading stood little chance without a big game from him.
Durrell Charles played big for Reading, scoring on a number of tough drives to the basket.
Manchester are just too deep for teams to compete with. Nine of their 12 players got on the scoresheet (9/10 who actually played), with Tom Devitt doing a good job running the point whilst Jack Crook dominated inside.
Did you get to the Amaechi Centre? Thoughts?

We have a tiny favour to ask. In 2018 we set out to make Hoopsfix sustainable by building our relationship directly with our readers. Up until now, Hoopsfix has been creating editorials, videos and podcasts to provide sorely missing coverage of the British game and its distinct culture and community.
We have funded Hoopsfix with our freelance work creating basketball media, but sadly that means not only does it fall behind our client’s priorities, but some of those clients are the same organisations we need to report objectively on putting us in a conflicted position.
We want to devote more time to our mission of helping British basketball reach its potential, and produce even more content for the basketball community by making Hoopsfix a sustainable 100% independent business funded directly by our readers through Patreon.
If everyone who enjoys our content chose to support us, our future would be much more secure. For as little as $3 per month, you can support Hoopsfix – and it only takes a minute.
We are tremendously honoured and humbled to have a community of people who value what we do, and we look forward to being at the forefront of the British game as it continues to evolve.
