England Select Squad Named For Exhibition Game

An England Select squad – consisting of English players from BBL clubs – has been named to take on a Welsh Select squad in an exhibition as a warm-up for the BBL Cup final next month.

Coached by England Senior Men’s Head Coach Paul James, the game will take place at the NIA in Birmingham (at 12:30pm on Sunday 16th January), immediately before Sheffield Sharks and Mersey Tigers meet to decide the winner of the first piece of BBL silverware of the season.

The roster is as follows;

Taner Adu (Essex Pirates)
Samuel Cricelli (Plymouth Raiders)
Shaun Durant (Worthing Thunder)
Stephen Gayle (Cheshire Jets)
Stefan Gill (Milton Keynes Lions)
Julius Joseph (Guildford Heat)
Barry Lamble (Leicester Riders)
Mike Martin (Guildford Heat)
Tayo Ogedengbe (Guildford Heat)
Anthony Rowe (Plymouth Raiders)
Samuel Toluwase (Essex Pirates)
David ‘Tintin’ Watts (Worcester Wolves)

What do you think? Are there any English players in the BBL you think should have been in this squad and aren’t? Drop a comment and let us know!

    Apart from GB players and guys such as James Jones and Andy Thompson who’d obviously be dead certs if they weren’t playing in the final, I can’t see anyone to really disagree with – other than maybe someone like John Nottley at Worthing whose been playing well this season together with Shaun Durant.

    Don’t know who’ll be in the Wales squad but I don’t see how they’re going to compete with this England team if they have no current professional players (Adam Williams?). Would it not have been better to choose a more competitive team to face?
