GB Women Victorious Over Israel In OT
In the second of three warm up games in Israel, the Great Britain Senior Women came away with an 85-75 overtime win.
Following a good first three quarters of play, GB led by 16. The Israeli team stepped up their play and made a big run in the fourth, outscoring Coach Tom Maher’s side 30-14, taking the second test game to overtime. A dominant extra period saw GB hold the hosts to just four points to win the game by 10.
Coach Maher was in high spirits after the win,
“The players composed themselves magnificently in the extra period and they found all the answers.”
Great Britain were led by a recovering Jo Leedham as she totaled 18 points, five rebounds and four assists. Steph Collins had a good game with 12 points and four assists whilst Julie Page impressed again adding 17 points and seven boards of her own.
GB will play Israel again later today to complete the three day series before heading home to begin their EuroBasket qualifying at Birmingham’s NIA, where they will play the Slovak Republic on August 14th.
