Tom Maher’s side fell short in the first of three test games in Tel Aviv, Israel, losing 80-69.
Beginning the final stage of their preparations for the all important qualifying games this August, GB came out strong in the first quarter. The side stuck with a good Israeli team to remain level at half time, 39-39.
In the third quarter the game remained very similar, GB edging it to take a one point lead into the final period of play with Julie Page leading the GB side with 25 points, 9 rebounds and 3 assists. Israel, however, were too strong in the fourth, pulling away to take an 11 point triumph over Maher’s side.
Jeneya Wade-Frey contributed well with 11 points whilst Jo Leedham totalled 6 rebounds as well as 4 assists and Stef Collins dished out 5 assists of her own.
Great Britain will have a quick turn around as they play Israel again tonight and finish the series in Tel Aviv on Thursday.
