The U20’s Women today continued their good European Championship run with a win over Israel 72-65.
After setting the tone early, with a 23-8 first quarter, GB built on their lead. They won the following two quarters and going into the fourth, Damien Jennings’ side were up 59-36.
Israel’s change of defence halted GB in the fourth quarter. A couple of big runs saw Israel bring the game all the way back to within three, 68-65, before Tamzin Barroilhet stopped their run with a huge three-point-play. Mary Durojaye sealed the game, hitting one of two at the line, 72-65.
Durojaye led a balanced scoring effort with 12 points and 9 boards. Ella Clark (5 points and 9 boards) and Miari Buchan (10 points and 5 rebounds) also contributed well for GB.
Through to the semi-final, Jennings’ side are now just one win away from promotion to Division A for next years campaign. Jennings commented:
“We are obviously pleased to make a semi, but we are treating it like a grand final.”
Great Britain will face an undefeated Portugese side today at 18.45 to try and advance.
