British Performance Basketball today announced the Great Britain Under 20 rosters (both men’s and women’s) for the coming summer schedule.
Both rosters will be playing in the European Division B, with the men playing three games in Austria and the women playing four in Macedonia. The teams face a grueling schedule as they play three and four games respectively over a four day period.
GB Standard Life Men’s U20 Head Coach Tim Lewis said
“We know this is a very challenging schedule for the team, but we can’t wait to get started. We are obviously looking forward to the games, but it will be great to integrate all the boys, both new and old, when training camp starts in June.”
Performance Director, Chris Spice, added:
“It is great to see the standard of player selected for the respective rosters, it is an encouraging sign that the future of British Basketball can be found across top colleges and clubs throughout the world.
“We are delighted to have Tim Lewis back coaching the men’s and we believe the addition of Damian Jennings as women’s head coach is a great opportunity for the women’s team.”
Though I can’t really comment on the women’s too much as I haven’t seen enough of them play, the men’s roster is looking pretty strong in my opinion without any glaring omissions I can think of (let me know in the comments if you think of any). Further to that, it’s real good to see a number of the players on the roster are still based in the UK, perhaps a sign of things changing with regards to good players having to go abroad to develop.

Jake Barr @ The University of Birmingham. Played for a relatively inexperienced side in Ebl2 and led the teams scoring, rebounding, and assists at pg.
jake barr is ok, his team won like 2 games all season, it wouldnt take much to top score on that team.
who does big mike hudson play for then??????
…but on a serious note, how did they pick this squad! no trials were announced?? Last year they had some pretty farsical trials that were ran for the sake of being legit, this year they seem to have even scrapped that!
Never seen or heard of Jake Barr, I’ll try and check him out at some point in the future.
To select the squad “British Basketball scouting system has been working hard throughout the season to unearth players from around the globe who are eligible to pull on the GB vest.”
So I guess there’s your answer! TBH, I’m not sure trials is the best route to go down, really they should know who the top players in each age group are.
dont worry about who i play 4….there was sum “talent id” camp in manchester just b4 christmas. but yh they shuold know the top players if they did their research correctly.
With 20+ people named their thats more of a training squad than a team. The scouting system is good but there should alsobe trials so that players under the radar can get a chance to prove themselves against elite players. They may get cut eventually but at least we get the best of the best.
@James, if a player hasn’t performed well enough on the season to be scouted, should he be invited to a trial? The realities are that British Basketball should know all the best players in every age group.
Anyone know why Nick J Lewis is not on this Roster ?? also how come Mikey Manghum is not on the Roster ??
These two are perhaps the best PG’s in this age group. without any questions
Nigel is a good choice as well, but i was wondering why these two in particular are not on there. I know they are in the States.
Nick is at St Thomas More Prep and Mikey is at Oral Roberts (D2) I think.
The other day I made comments on how George Radford should be on the under18 squad and looking at this roster he probably should/could make this squad unfortunatly I dont think the GB scouts now about him just yet. But you never know :)
