Dominant CoLA clinch WNBL Division 1 title

City of London Academy have secured the WNBL Division 1 title after a double-winning weekend on the road.

Jackson Gibbons’ side – made up entirely of under-19 players – move to a 19-1 record at the top of the standings and cannot be caught with two games remaining following their 47-63 success at Thames Valley Cavaliers.

“We’re exceptionally proud of the girls – they were very mature this season; they did a great job of being professional and winning a very tough league,” said CoLA head coach, Gibbons.

“We didn’t celebrate at the end because our focus is on the playoffs and winning the whole thing.”

Isi Ozzy-Momodu posted double-doubles in both wins with 17 points and 15 rebounds along with four blocks in the 45-60 win over Bristol on Saturday before posting 17 points and 16 rebounds the following day.

CoLA’s only loss of the regular season came against Ipswich, the team that beat them in last season’s playoffs final.

It has already been a successful season for the programme with the Under-18s winning the National Cup title, while the WEABL side are through to the playoffs with a perfect record in the Southern Conference.
