BAL LURES MBA FROM SURREY
Matthew Bryan-Amaning has become the first British export to the new Basketball Africa League.
The Great Britain forward has ended his short stay at Surrey Scorchers to join Egyptian side Zamalek ahead of the BAL’s debut season which begins later this month.
Under the rules, the Londoner is set to qualify as one of the two allowed African imports due to his father’s Ghanaian citizenship.
“I got the opportunity through Luol Deng, the league ambassador, and Dzaflo Larkai, both former Brixton Topcats players and obviously two big time professionals,” he revealed.
“The opportunity was one I couldn’t turn down as its in the inaugural season and always good to get in at the beginning.
“I will join the team from Egypt called Zamalek and can’t wait to play in my father’s home nation.â€
The 12-team BAL, which is jointly run by the NBA and FIBA, will launch with 12 teams in a dozen different countries with each allowed four foreign imports, of which two must be nationals of African countries.
