Akin was named to the All-Tournament team alongside two of his team-mates having also earned recognition during the regular season with a place in the All-Rookie Team – a year after GB Under-20 Akwasi Yeboah achieved the same feat.
The Barking Abbey alum started 18 of 34 games this season with a best of 11 points coming against Maine as well as against UMass Lowell in his side’s post-season opener.
UMBC are the 16th seeds in the South Regional and open against the top seeded Virginia (31-2) in Charlotte on Friday for their first NCAA Championship encounter since 2008.
