Fourteen-year-old Patrick Morrison from Hackney, London was treated to a once-in-a-lifetime experience when he was invited to Oakland by two-time NBA Champion Draymond Green to watch his favourite team, the Golden State Warriors, take on the New Orleans Pelicans.
Patrick first met Draymond when the 2017 Defensive Player of the Year was visiting London. Patrick, who was led to believe that he was being interviewed as a BT Sport viewer, was surprised by the Golden State Warriors forward mid-interview, before being subsequently invited to San Francisco so that he could watch his favourite team play.
Patrick couldn’t wait to get to grips with his first live NBA game, saying: “I’m extremely excited. My first NBA game. I can’t wait to see Draymond and the guys do what they do. When I’m in London, watching the NBA games you’re very tired.
“You can see the atmosphere, but you can’t feel it and tonight I’m going to feel that atmosphere. I’m taking it all in, second by second and I’m just enjoying the whole thing.”
Patrick witnessed the Warriors earn a hard-fought victory against a strong New Orleans Pelicans team. After the game, Patrick met up with Draymond to discuss the game and even bumped into two-time MVP Steph Curry.
After meeting the Warriors star point guard, Patrick said: “Meeting Steph Curry was absolutely amazing. Two-time NBA champion and two-time MVP award winner. He is such a cool dude.”
