WBBL 2017-18 Recaps – Week 3

Three teams remain unbeaten in the WBBL after five games took place on the third weekend of the new season.

LEICESTER RIDERS 85-63 CALEDONIA PRIDE

Leicester recorded their second league win as they pulled away from Caledonia Pride for a 22-point victory.

Dee Hayward led the way with 18 points, while Jamila Thompson produced an impressive all-round effort with 16 points, nine rebounds and eight assists.

Alex Smith added 12 assists to 12 points as Riders held their opponents to just 21 points in the second half.

For Pride, Rosanna Reynolds had 19 points as they dropped to 1-1.

OAKLANDS WOLVES 42-88 SEVENOAKS SUNS

Sevenoaks Suns eased their way to a 3-0 record after beating Oaklands Wolves away from home.

Chantelle Pressley had a game-high 20 points in the win with Cat Carr adding 19 points as all five starters hit double figures.

Oaklands were down 12 at the half, but an 8-30 third period killed off any hope of a revival as the Suns raced clear.

MANCHESTER MYSTICS 92-55 DURHAM PALATINATES

Georgia Jones poured in a 30-point haul to lead Manchester Mystics to their second league win.

The home side put up 19 threes in the win with Jones dropping seven, while Lauren Thomas-Johnson went 6-of-10 from downtown in her 20 points.

Rheanne Bailey added 15 points and seven assists as Mystics racked up 55 first-half points.

Durham fielded a depleted side with their five starters playing the full 40 minutes, led by Paula Tarnachowicz’ 22 points.

CARDIFF MET ARCHERS 73-78 NOTTINGHAM WILDCATS

The two-time defending league champions finally picked up their first league win after overcoming Cardiff away from home.

Ashley Harris returned to action with 31 points and 12 rebounds with the Wildcats having to recover from a slow start, where they trailed by 12 at 10-22.

Merisa Quick had 17 points and 10 rebounds for the Archers with player-coach Stef Collins filling the stat-sheet in the loss.

TEAM NORTHUMBRIA 65-72 SHEFFIELD HATTERS

Sheffield improved to a 4-0 start after beating Northumbria by seven on the road.

Gianna Woods had 27 points, 17 rebounds and four assists in a huge display for the visitors, while Steph Gandy added 19 & 10.

The home side – paced by Alison Gorrell’s 19 points, eight assists – led by four at the end of the third, but Sheffield went on a 10-0 run to start the fourth.
