EUROBASKET TROPHY TO VISIT UK

The FIBA EuroBasket trophy is to undertake a three-day tour of Britain from May 11-14.

It will vist Glasgow and Stirling on its opening day, then go to Manchester’s National Performance Centre on May 12, then move to Cardiff Archers’ new venue before ending up in London at the Playoff Finals at the 02 Arena.

The pan-European tour is designed to give each competing nation a chance to see the new Nikolai Semashko Trophy. .

“We are very honoured that FIBA have allowed Great Britain to bring the Nikolai Semashko Trophy to our shores,” Ian Curryer, Interim Chair of the British Basketball Federation, said.

“We have a promise to transform basketball in Britain together and it’s fantastic that we have worked with Basketball Scotland, Basketball Wales, Basketball England and the BBL to give fans the opportunity to view the trophy in all its glory.”
Meanwhile it has been confirmed that GB men will play Greece at London’s Copper Box in a friendly on 19 August.

It will be the team’s only home game in the summer 2017 with Joe Prunty’s side expected to then travel to Greece for a couple of games, then onto Tel Aviv to face Israel with their last action before EuroBasket begins a four-nation tourney in Warsaw against Poland, Israel and Hungary.
