Christian Behrens will begin his pro career this season after signing A two-year deal with WBC Wels, according to the Austrian top-flight side.
The American-born forward was called up to the GB Senior Mens side this summer as part of the initial 19-man squad but still awaits his debut with the national team.
Behrens still had one more year of eligibility at the University of California, Berkeley (7’1″ centre Kingsley Okoroh is a sophomore there this year) but decided to pursue a professional career overseas.
The 22-year-old struggled with knee injuries in the early stages of his college career, playing just 16 games in two years.
However, Behrens enjoyed more playing time in his senior year; starting 17 of his 30 games whilst averaging 4.5 points and 3.3 rebounds per game.
Wels play in the Austrian A-Bundesliga, and they finished 6th in the 10-team top-division last season whilst reaching the quarter-finals of the playoffs.
Excited to say that I'll be playing this season in Austria! #godisgood
