England U18 guard Alex Roberts (1997 born) came up clutch for Myerscough this weekend at the AoC National Championships, hitting a game winner with 0.5 seconds left to give Myerscough the title over SGS at the University of Bath.
Roberts shook loose to receive the inbounds pass, where he drove to the whole, spinning around Deane Williams before hitting the off balance floater in the lane.
The U19 competition, which is qualified for by competing in regional tournaments with the winners going onto the Nationals, isn’t short of high quality teams and players – many of which also compete in the EABL (SGS, Myerscough, Itchen, Hackney, Derby, Milton Keynes, etc) but unfortunately is in a 10 minute game format (! – only in England).
Myerscough won the final 22-21 (game report here), after SGS’s inbounds lob at the buzzer was stolen away. Teams played six (ten minute) games over the two days, with Myerscough defeating Derby College/Noel Baker School in their semi, while SGS took down Itchen in theirs to book a place in the final.
