EGWUONWU GETS SECOND ROCKS SHOT

Glasgow Rocks coach Sterling Davis has made a shock swoop for centre Paul Egwuonwu, six weeks after axing the American from his squad.

The rookie, who made four appearances in his first stint at the BBL outfit, will go straight into action in Saturday’s trip to Leicester Riders.

“It’s a little weird to be back in Glasgow but I’m just happy to be playing again,” said Egwuonwu. “It sucked getting cut at first but I didn’t sweat it too much.

“I knew I’d be playing on another team soon enough so I didn’t worry about it. I did think twice when Sterling asked me to come back, I definitely did because whenever a team lets you go you, worry about returning there. But I spoke to people close to me and they told I should go for it.”

Davis will be out for at least one more week following knee surgery.

Meanwhile Leicester have signed American forward TrayVonn Wright to replace the axed Derrick Roland.

The 23 year old, a rookie out of North Dakota State University, had a short spell with WBC Raiffeisen Wels in the top Austrian league, the OBL, earlier this season as well as featuring with the NBA D-League’s Iowa Energy.

“TrayVonn is a long, athletic and versatile player that plays above the rim and can bring a different dimension to our team,” said Riders coach Rob Paternostro.

“I think the athleticism is certainly something that jumps out at you when you watch him play. He really is an exciting player and can impact the game on both ends of the court.

“He comes from a winning program and was an intelligent player and a major factor in his team’s success. He is capable of making plays from many areas on the court and is a guy that we feel will fit in well with our team.”
