BIRMINGHAM KNIGHTS HEAD TO BBL EXIT

Birmingham Knights Logo 568Birmingham Knights have exited the British Basketball League after a damning verdict on their initial season in the top flight.

The Midlands outfit have been deemed unfit for purpose following the mandatory review which followed a debut campaign that saw the rookies fail to win a single game.

Owners Oaks Consultancy have informally put the club up for sale but with no alternative investors yet coming forward, they have officially withdrawn.

League sources have confirmed that the Knights on and off court activity had been adjudged sub-standard and it is understood that, even within its ownership group, there have been differences of opinion on whether the franchise can be salvaged.

After taking an extra two years to begin play following their original franchise award, their eleventh-hour move out of Birmingham to nearby Solihull was poorly received by other clubs.

And it was not expected now that a rescue act would come off with one senior BBL figure recently claiming: “they have been set expectations, following the review, that they are struggling to meet.”

However the league will still increase its number of teams next season with the additions of Bristol Flyers and Leeds Carnegie.
