Great Britain will open next summer’s qualifiers for EuroBasket Women 2015 with a home clash with Belgium on June 8, after FIBA Europe confirmed the schedule.
The six-game slate will see Damian Jennings’ side subsequently go on the road for their next three ties before finishing up with home meetings with Macedonia and Lithuania.
The venues for the fixtures will be confirmed next year but GB’s most-capped performer Stef Collins believes the side has a great opportunity to reach their third successive European finals.
“The Olympic performances looked consistently promising and we are certainly building a style of basketball which can compete with the best in Europe and around the globe,†she said. “2013 was such a positive step forward following that. We beat Serbia in our opening game and it was fun to watch their run to finish 4th. It gives us hope that one day we might be able to do similar.â€
Jennings is expected to open training camp in mid-May with a small schedule of warm-up friendlies.
SCHEDULE: June 8 Belgium (H)
, June 11 Macedonia (A),
June 15 Lithuania (A)
, June 18 Belgium (A)
, June 22 Macedonia (H),
June 25 Lithuania (H)
Meanwhile GB and Bourges star Jo Leedham has been nominated for FIBA Europe Player of the Year for 2013 while Devon van Oostrum has been shortlisted for Young Player of the Year.
