Newham All Star Sports Academy (NASSA) were crowned the 2013 Under-16 Sureshot National Cup champions on Saturday afternoon, defending their 2012 title as they beat Derby Trailblazers 95-64 in the final at The Amaechi Centre, Manchester.
Jonathan James was named MVP after dropping 39 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists and 3 steals, whilst Akwasi Yeboah was equally impressive with 26 points, 17 rebounds, 8 steals and 3 blocks on 10/14 shooting for an efficiency rating of 50.
Derby managed to hang for the first quarter, trailing by just two at the first break, but NASSA turned it up in the second and cruised the rest of the way against a non-existent Derby defence which saw NASSA score 74 points in the paint, predominantly on lay ups.
Point guard Kayne King had 18 points, 9 rebounds, 7 assists and 5 steals for Derby, but turned the ball over 13 times. Jake Wesselingh added 18 points of his own.
