NASSA 2013 U16 National Cup Champions

NASSA 2013 U16 National Cup ChampionsNewham All Star Sports Academy (NASSA) were crowned the 2013 Under-16 Sureshot National Cup champions on Saturday afternoon, defending their 2012 title as they beat Derby Trailblazers 95-64 in the final at The Amaechi Centre, Manchester.

Point guard Kayne King had 18 points, 9 rebounds, 7 assists and 5 steals for Derby, but turned the ball over 13 times. Jake Wesselingh added 18 points of his own.

Box score.

Notes

  • The game started so fast-paced it (and defence-less) it appeared as though both teams were going to break 100 comfortably. Never seen anything like it in a final event, it was a lay-up drill at one point.
  • Jonathan James ‘ 39 came on nearly all lay-ups – Derby couldn’t prevent him getting into the lane and finishing as he used his quickness to penetrate.
  • Full highlights coming soon – for now, check out Kayne King and Calvin Kintu trading pretty assists.
  • In the girls U16 cup, Haringey Angels beat Southend Swifts 55-52 with Brenda Kipewu being named MVP. Box score.

Did you make it to the final? Thoughts?
