GB Women Fall to USA in Manchester

GB vs USA Women in Manchester

GB vs USA Women in ManchesterFor a few moments, the upset was on. GB shocked USA out of the gates as they went up 21-10 early but it wasn’t to last, as USA took the 88-63 victory on Wednesday evening at the Manchester Arena, Manchester.

USA’s 21-0 run bridging the first and second quarters, gave them the lead they would never relinquish as they cruised the rest of the way – despite a game-high 21 points from GB star Jo Leedham.

After the game, Leedham said despite the result GB saw they can compete with the world’s best:

“This is a good outcome for us. I don’t think we executed great but we showed ourselves that when we are executing, we can play at that level.

“We should have the belief and confidence that we can play with these players. Their athleticism is crazy. They’re the most athletic team I’m ever going to face. When you put all 12 of those players together, it’s amazing. But we have to do the little things – the grit, the aggression – that allows us to compete with teams like that.”

Julie Page had 6 points, and 8 rebounds, Azania Stewart had 9 and 3 boards whilst Temi Fagbenle finished with 4 points, 5 rebounds and 2 assists. Maya Moore (Minnesota Lynx) earned the Player of the Game after leading the USA with 18 points, 5 assists and 6 rebounds,

Did you catch the game? Thoughts?
