BLATT FURY AT GB HOST BERTH
Russia coach David Blatt has claimed Great Britain do not deserve their place in the 2012 Olympic Games.
The Maccabi Tel Aviv playcaller, whose side will have to earn a spot in London via July’s qualifying tournament in Caracas, will put his side against GB in two friendlies in Houston in June.
However he hints that there will be a point to prove after GB were awarded a host spot by FIBA.
“Only because the Olympics are in London this year, the British team received a free pass, and that was at our expense, basically,†Blatt told in an interview with RIA-Novosti.
The British were unworthy of the berth, he added.
“Sports-wise, No, that’s the politics of the situation, and that’s what it is. It’s part of the picture, not a whole lot that I can do about it.â€
