GB U20 Women Beaten by Italy

Despite a valiant effort, Great Britain Under-20 Women came up short against Italy, losing 44-36 in a low scoring affair at the Division A European Championships.

Plagued by turnovers, finishing the game with 29, Italy scored the final five points of the game to take the win.

Head coach Damian Jennings remained positive despite the loss:

“We definitely put ourselves back in a position to win this game. Our defensive energy and how the players followed the scouting reports was a significant improvement from the game against Spain.

“Our offensive decisions and technical execution let us down throughout the second half, but these players are very analytical and want to improve – so I have no doubt we will make improvements is this area. I wouldn’t write us off yet!”

Katrin Chiemeka was one rebound short of a double double with 10 points, 9 rebounds, while Temi Fagbenle marked her return to the team with 8 points, 6 rebounds and 3 blocks. Deanne Hayward added 6 points.
