GB Senior Women’s Squad Announced

Great Britain Senior Women’s Head Coach Tom Maher has released the names of the 16 player squad that will attend training camp at Surrey Sports Park, Guildford, on the 1st May.

The GB Women’s first competition will be Game On 2011 – British Basketball Invitational Tournament. The four day competition tips of in Surrey on 18 May where GB will face Germany, Latvia and Cuba.

Maher commenting on the selection of his squad, said;

“Selection is always difficult but we have assembled the best list possible and hope to continue to make significant inroads against the rest of Europe. It is important that the players prepare well for camp so we can build on the progress we made last season, both individually and as a team.”

The 16 women selected to attend the camp beginning on 1 May 2011 are as follows:

The squad of 16 will be cut down to 12 for the start of the EuroBasket 2011, where Team GB will face Belarus, Israel, and the Czech Republic, whilst competing in Group B of the competition.

Scottish national, Mairi Buchan is recovering from a stress fracture in her foot and after undergoing a medical assessment she will not be ready in time to commence camp to join her Standard Life GB teammates this summer. Sarah Naylor has also had to step back from her international duties this year due to a change in her availability.

British Basketball can announce that coming in to complete the final 16 once again are the experienced figures of Meagan Hoffman and Jo Clayden who were both part of the GB squad last year and played in the EuroBasket qualifiers.

Buchan joins the list of casualties alongside Janeya Wade-Fray who is due to undergo knee surgery shortly after rupturing an ACL at practice and Sarah McKay who remains in rehabilitation from her knee operation.
