BUCS Women’s Knockout Results

By Joe Pinchin | @jpincho22

The knockout stage of the BUCS Championships opened yesterday and both of last year’s finalists went straight through to the Final 8s weekend in Sheffield. Both UWIC and Leeds Met’s opponents forfeited their Last 16 game so both progressed with 20-0 victories.

I got to witness University of Brighton struggle against a strong Loughborough team performance. Executing very well from the tip, Loughborough were lead by a great defensive performance from Naomi Campbell and 32 points from freshman Jennie Rodgers helped them cruise to a 40 point win over the southern side.

Out of the remaining five games only one game was close. University of Durham toppled Northern Premier side Edinburgh University by just six points to extend their undefeated season and earn their place at the Championship weekend in March. This, however, was the only upset of the day, with the rest of the favorites progressing to what is sure to be a very competitive final three days in Sheffield.
