Tim Lewis and Damian Jennings have been kept in charge of Great Britain’s Under-20 men’s and women’s teams for this summer’s European Championships.
Jennings, his assistant Matt Johnson, along with manager, Marlies Keifer and performance coach, Dave Bailey return after guiding the women’s side into Division A – the first time for any home nation team. They will lead their line-up in Serbia from July 7-17.
Head of Performance at British Basketball, Warwick Cann, commented: “I am delighted that the successful coaching team from last year’s achievement will be back for this foray into Division A basketball.
“I am sure they will use last year’s experience well to prepare this year’s squad for what will be a daunting but exciting challenge for GB.â€
Lewis remains in his post
Meanwhile, the GB under-20 men will be heading to Sarajevo from July 14- 24 to compete in Division B. Essex Pirates playcaller Lewis has been retained despite narrowly failing to win promotion with an improved 6-2 record in 2010.
GB senior men’s assistant coach, Paul Mokeski, is to join his staff as assistant coach to the team. The former NBA centre, who is on Chris Finch’s bench at NBA D-League’s Rio Grande Vipers, was involved with GB senior men when they reached EuroBasket 2011.
“Last year’s team performed well but missed out on getting the ranking that we chased,†Cann added.
“Nonetheless, it was a good season and now we need to maintain the standards of play but also improve the ranking, which will not be easy.
“We must remember that the GB under-20 team is also about identifying players who can play for GB in the future as a senior player and potentially in 2016. I think Paul Mokeski’s appointment and his vast experience at all levels, including NBA, will greatly aide our dual goals of player development, as well as team success as we look towards 2016.â€
