The GB Standard Life women’s team have been drawn against Czech Republic, Belarus and Israel in Group B for EuroBasket Women 2011. The draw was held today in Poland, where the EuroBasket Women 2011 competition is due to take place next year.

It won’t be an easy ride for GB, c0mpeting against Belarus, who finished fourth in this year’s World Championships and Israel who have been very consistent over the last two years.

Head Coach Tom Maher is positive about the draw;

“All 15 teams who were in the draw today are top standard so we were going to be up against the best whoever we drew. At this level all the games are tough but I am happy with Group B as I think it will provide a challenging and exciting competition. I am confident that with further growth in our team and providing we all continue to improve throughout next summer we are can put ourselves in the mix with the three teams we’re up against in our group.”

Great Britain guard, Stef Collins, added:

“Our draw against, Czech Republic, Israel, and Belarus, will certainly be a challenging test for us, as these teams have a history of performing well at this level, but with our preparation we will strive to match this year’s fantastic summer.”

The full groups (with locations) are:

Group A (Bydgoszcz): Russia, Turkey, Lithuania, Slovak Republic
Group B (Bydgoszcz): Belarus, Czech Republic, Israel and Great Britain
Group C (Katowice): Spain, Poland, Montenegro and a qualifier (from the additional qualifying tournament to be held in Hungary and Italy in early June)
Group D (Katowice): France, Greece, Latvia, Croatia

Great Britain will tip off against Belarus on the 18th June next year.

Let the preparations begin.
