Damien Jennings’ side lost to a strong Czech Republic side last night in their final group game of the competition, finishing 72-58.
Despite an early lead in the game, GB couldn’t hold on in the second half. The Czech side pulled away in the second with turnovers crippled the GB side, totaling 25 in the game which the Czech’s converted for 26 points. GB never got back in the game despite a well balanced team scoring performance led by Mairi Buchan who had 12 points and 6 rebounds.
Coach Jennings’ remained positive saying:
“There is much to learn from our performance and the Division A benchmark the Czech’s set today.”
The loss sets the team at 3-1, giving them second place in Group B (no matter what the outcome of the Czech Republic’s last game) and they will advance to play Israel (2-2) on Friday in the quarter-final.
