GB Senior Women Defeated By Belgium

In the first of back to back test games against Belgium, a weakened GB side struggled to find form resulting in a 97-71 loss.

Team GB were without Jo Leedham, amongst others (who is hoping to be back for GB’s trip to Israel in three games time). Kim Butler stepped up and led the team with 16 points and 10 rebounds, Julie Page had 11 and Rose Anderson had 10 but unfortunately it was not enough as GB came up short.

Head coach Tom Maher remained positive after the game:

“We were clearly outplayed as far as getting a win however there were a lot of positives. Kim Butler had her best game, we had to face a real superstar in Anne Wauters and we had some seriously good minutes interspersed with our self-destructive play. Not having Jo Leedham, Natalie Stafford or Chantelle Handy obviously hurt us, but we were still able to compete for most of the game.”

The two sides meet again this evening before GB move on to the Netherlands on Friday for another double-header.
