Tom Pereira Verbally Commits to Rider

Tom Pereira

Former Derby Trailblazers guard and current Canarias Basketball Academy player Tom Pereira has verbally committed to Rider University. The 1991 born England Under 18 International, and recent GB U20 roster addition will team up with Team GB guard Justin Robinson giving NCAA Division 1 school Rider an all British backcourt.

At 6’2 and 180lbs, I first heard of Pereira after his 45 point scoring outbreak in the EBL Under 18s Final last year (video soon come), after that he put in a solid performance at Future Stars 2009 with the England Under 18 side, before destroying people over the summer at Midnight Madness with his ridiculous shooting touch (naming him as one of my top 20 under 18’s at Midnight Madness 2009). He enrolled at CBA at the beginning of this season then turned a lot of heads at the National Prep School Invitational with the CBA team where he averaged 20.3ppg across 3 games against some top competition stateside leading to a number of scholarship offers including Portland Uni, San Diego State, Wyoming Uni, Iowa State and Rider amongst others.

Speaking exclusively to Hoopsfix, Pereira talking on his feelings about going to Rider, why he chose them and a possible partnership with Robinson said

“The thought of myself going to Rider Uni is exciting for me, it will be a new chapter in my life and my basketball career. The style of play that Rider runs had me from the get go, they like to shoot the ball a lot which compliments my game and the facilities that they have are just great. I’m going to love it! I am really optimistic about me and Justin running together, I think we will strike up a good partnership straight away.”

He is in the process of studying for his SATs, and providing he passes will then put pen to paper in early May after his playoffs. Hoopsfix wants to wish him all the best!

Big thanks to Matt Clear for bringing this to my attention. For one bloggers take on Rider’s roster next year, read this.
